The University of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; Innovation Research Tower at the corner of 5th Avenue and Halket Street caps the South West corner of the urban Oakland neighborhood campus. The zero lot line building is pushed back from the corner at grade - creating a welcoming plaza beneath the glass corner curtain wall of the building, that serves as a visual beacon, much the same way the iconic Cathedral of Learning does at the other end of 5th Avenue. The streetscape provides a place for people with plenty of seating, raised planters for street trees, safety rail which is consistent throughout campus, and bike racks, for multi-modal commuting options. Resting atop the 9th floor sits an open deck with two configurations of green roof plantings, one which is deep set in a custom planter with inset lighting - providing a nice soft illumination of the ground plane while also providing to view of the city skyline as well as the Monongahela River.
